2017 State Winter Games
Join Special Olympics North Dakota at the Bottineau Winter Park for the 2017 SOND State Winter Games. The multi-sport event held January 20-21, 2017, will feature close to 100 participants from communities across North Dakota competing in the sports of Alpine Skiing, Cross Country Skiing, and Snow Shoe racing.

The Polar Plunge is an annual fundraiser organized by community volunteers and is part of the year-round Law Enforcement Torch Run program to raise awareness and funds to support physical tness and athletic competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Polar Plunges o er a unique opportunity for individuals, organizations, and businesses to support Special Olympics athletes by raising money and taking the plunge into chilly North Dakota waters.
Plungers raise a minimum of $75 for the opportunity to take the plunge. Have FUN! Form a team, come up with a fun name and crazy costumes with friends, co-workers, or classmates. No matter what, the Polar Plunge is all about FUN!

2017 State Basketball Tournament
World Winter Games 2017
The Special Olympics World Winter Games will return to Austria, host of the 1993 Special Olympics World Winter Games. The Games will be held from March 18-24, 2017. Three thousand athletes representing 100 nations will compete in nine sports during the week-long event with the Opening Ceremony in Schladming on March 18.
Four athletes from North Dakota have been selected to represent the Special Olympics USA. Athletes include Christy Coughlin, Minot-Snowshoeing; Wade Wintermeyer, Jamestown-Snowshoeing; Dave Johs, Bismarck-Cross-Country Skiing; and Katielynn Ovitt, Bottineau-Alpine Skiing. Cindy Schopper of Valley City is an assistant Snowshoe coach, Dr. Julie Blehm is on the Special Olympics USA medical team and Kathleen Meagher, SOND President and CEO is the Family Coordinator for Special Olympics USA. Kevin Arthaud of Bismarck will represent the Law Enforcement Torch Run team running in the Final Leg. The team will carry the Flame of Hope through 45 cities, towns and communities across Austria culminating at the Opening Ceremony of the Games.

Dancing for Special Stars

“Dancing for Special Stars” is a dance contest patterned after the hit television program “Dancing with the Stars.” This event is a fundraiser for Special Olympics North Dakota (SOND) and will feature area celebrities paired with local dance instructors. Each couple will perform a dance of their choice.

Special Olympics North Dakota is proud to partner with the SpartanNash Foundation during its retail scan campaign to support Special Olympics athletes and the 2017 State Summer Games. SOND State Office Closed
The Special Olympics North Dakota State Office will be closed on Monday, May 29th, 2017 in observance of Memorial Day. We will reopen on May 30th at 8:00 a.m.
Benefit Golf Tournament - Valley City
Area 8 Special Olympics will be holding their 29th Annual 4-person golf scramble on Friday, June 2, 2017 at the Country Club Golf Course in Valley City. The purpose of this golf benefit is to help support Special Olympics athletes to participate in athletic events throughout the year, as well as participate in numerous state, national, and worldwide events.
The 2017 benefit tournament will be sponsored by Dacotah Bank of Valley City.
Teams will be flighted after the first 9 holes. There will be two flights and 1st and 2nd place will be awarded in both flights.

SONA Softball Championship Tryouts
The Special Olympics North America (SONA) Softball Championships will be held in Bismarck this August. SOND has been allocated a traditional (no partners) team to participate in this tournament and will be holding a statewide tryout on June 3rd at Clem Kelley Diamond 1 located in Bismarck, ND
Registration will begin at 10 a.m.
Softball drills will begin at 10:30 a.m.
Conclusion of Tryouts at 3:00 p.m.

Gold Medal Entrée

The Gold Medal Entrée promotion will take place from June 4-8, 2017 at Fargo-area restaurants. Participating restaurants include: Labby's Grill & Bar, Golf Addiction, and Smiling Moose Rocky Mountain Deli. 25% of selected purchases will be donated to Special Olympics North Dakota to benefit athletes participating in the 2017 State Summer Games.
State Summer Games
For the 20th consecutive year, the city of Fargo will serve as host of the Special Olympics North Dakota (SOND) State Summer Games.
Participants will compete in the sports of Athletics (Track & Field), Swimming, Bocce, Powerlifting, and Volleyball.
Additional Special Events for participants include an Opening Ceremony & Parade of Athletes, Community Celebration, Healthy Athlete screenings, Olympic Town activities, and athlete Victory Dance.

Special Olympics Grand Forks will be hosting an appreciation picnic in Lincoln Park (Shelter #3) starting at 5:30 and going until 8:30 pm. We invite all athletes, family, staff, coaches and volunteers! SOGF will provide food, drink and snacks along with games, relay races, bean bag toss and more! Please come and be appreciated join the fun.

More than 400 athletes and Unified partners comprising 28 teams from throughout the United States and Canada will be competing in the sport of softball in Special Olympics traditional team and Unified Sports (people with and without intellectual disabilities playing as teammates) formats.
The four-day event includes additional special events for participants including an Opening Ceremony & Parade of Athletes, Healthy Athlete screenings, and a Victory Dance.

Applebee's Tip-A-Cop

Each Fall, more than 100 law enforcement personnel volunteer their time, hosting guests in Applebee‘s Neighborhood Grill and Bars across the state to raise awareness and tip money for Special Olympics. The Law Enforcement Torch Run group, which consists of volunteers from all agencies of law enforcement has hosted the event for over 10 years. This year, the event will be held at Applebee's locations in Bismarck, Devils Lake, Dickinson, Fargo, Grand Forks, Jamestown, Minot, and Williston.

Cool Cash Raffle

The Cool Cash raffle is a “Calendar Raffle”. The raffle runs at the end of every calendar year. During that time, $200 will be given away every weekday (Monday-Friday), and $500 will be given away on weekend days (Saturday-Sunday). Raffle winners will be listed on our website daily, except over weekends, when they will be added the following Monday.
The 2017 raffle will run from Friday, November 24th - Saturday, December 16th. Winners will be drawn at 10:00 am each day, with the results posted on this page shortly after. Tickets are $10 and may be purchased by calling Special Olympics North Dakota at (701) 746-0331.
